How to plan for the perfect coach trip
18-03-2022
Travelling by coach is one of the most comfortable and enjoyable ways to take in the sights. And, with just a little preparation, you can make it an even better experience for yourself and those travelling with you. Here are our tips to ensure you enjoy the perfect coach day trip, no matter where you’re headed!
Pack light
If you’re on a day trip by coach, you won’t need to pack too much. Bring just enough so that you can utilise the overhead rack without having to sacrifice any of your floor or seating space, as that way you can stretch your legs out as you travel and luxuriate in comfort with uncluttered legroom. Think ahead to what you’re really going to need during the journey and while you’re out and about sightseeing (see below if you’re not sure!) and stick to that. Don’t forget: you might want to bring home a souvenir or two, so make sure you save a bit of space in your bag! A small rucksack or bag should usually do the trick – and don’t forget an extra handbag or backpack for when you’re out and about. One of the great things about coach travel is that you can leave what you don’t need on the coach, so you can explore the sights without having to lug everything around! Plan your outfit
Dress for comfort while travelling. The looser the better, so that you can stretch out and relax as the miles whizz by. Layers are a great way to go: if you’re feeling a little chilly you can pop on a sweater or hoodie, or if you’re feeling too warm you can take a layer off.
Kick off your shoes
We always say “make yourself at home” when travelling with us, so feel free to kick off your shoes while travelling! We guarantee you’ll feel more comfortable. Bear your destination in mind when selecting footwear too; comfy trainers are always advisable for sightseeing.
Bring a book
Coach travel gives you the chance to sit back, relax and catch up on that novel or biography you’ve been meaning to pick up. Treat yourself to a read on the road!
Snack up
You might get a little peckish during the trip, so bring along a snack or two and something to drink. And don’t worry if you forget; your coach will take stops, giving you the chance to grab a bite on the way.
Stretch the legs
Our coaches afford plenty of legroom as you travel, but be sure to give your legs a stretch when you can. You might not want to buy anything or use the loo when the coach makes a rest-stop, but if you use the time to step outside for five minutes or so you’ll feel tip-top when you arrive at your destination.
Plan for a snooze
Everyone loves a nap on the coach, so make it a cosy one! Stick a neck pillow in your bag, and a blanket too if you wish. If you’re a light sleeper but want to grab a snooze on the return leg, pack some earplugs and an eye mask too.
Plan where you want to go
While your tour will have it’s own itinerary, there is always a bit of free-time to enjoy however you wish. A bit of research before you travel will ensure you make the most of it. Take a look at a list of things to do in your destination, either online or in a brochure. Be realistic though and try not to cram in too much; take a note of how much free-time you have and plan accordingly. Check opening days and times too, to ensure you’re not disappointed.
Get your papers in order
If you’re on a coach day trip to Europe, be sure to remember to pack your passport, and check to make sure it’s valid in plenty of time before you travel.
Check your departure times
Before you travel, check to be certain when the coach is due to depart and where from – we’d hate for you to miss it! Plan enough time to get to the coach station or departure point, and to park your car if necessary. Avoid a rush; the more time you give yourself, the more relaxing your coach trip will be afterwards.
