A little bit of history

Whittles’ story begins in 1926, when Ron Whittle’s father and two brothers launched a transport service in Highley, Shropshire, taking miners to and from their shifts and transporting coal between runs.

By 1939, Whittles opened its second office in Kidderminster, and throughout the 1950s the business evolved to focus solely on passenger transport.

Ron Whittle joined the company at age 19 in the mid-1960s. By 1989, Whittles had grown to 50 staff and a fleet of 37 coaches.

  • 2004: Whittles was acquired by EYMS, expanding the fleet to 50 vehicles with over 100 staff.
  • 2015: Johnsons Coach Travel purchased Whittles and returned the business to its core strength high-quality coach travel.

Today, Whittles continues to build on its proud heritage, combining local roots with modern service excellence.

Our guiding principle

“TRAVEL WITH WHITTLES – TRAVEL WITH FRIENDS!”

History about Whittles group

Whittles can trace its roots back to 1926 when Ron Whittle's father and two brothers, based in Highley, Shropshire set up in business supporting taking miners to and from their villages to the pits, and hauling coal in between shift changes.

In 1939 'Go Whittle' opened a second office in Kidderminster and in the 1950s, the brothers decided it was time to specialise; they chose passenger transport and disposed of their trucks.

Ron Whittle joined the company from school at the age of 19 in the mid-sixties and by 1989 they had 50 staff and 37 coaches.

In January 2004 Hull based EYMS purchased Whittles which included 50 vehicles and 100 full time and part time staff. In January 2015 Johnsons Coach Travel of Henley-in-Arden bought Whittles, which by now was a much smaller company and returned to specialising in coach travel.
